Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
Serotonergic Drugs
Why this applies to Eletriptan
Eletriptan falls under Serotonergic Drugs — the group Ashwagandha interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
If you take Relpax (eletriptan) for migraines and you're curious about adding ashwagandha, here's the honest picture. Eletriptan works on serotonin pathways in the brain, and some animal research hints that ashwagandha may nudge those same serotonin signals a little. In theory, stacking two things that touch serotonin could add up.
That said, the evidence here is thin. This is rated a minor, possible interaction, and there are no real-world reports of problems when ashwagandha is combined with serotonin drugs. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but it's worth being aware of symptoms like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, or feeling unusually restless. If those show up, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before continuing the combination.
What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

By severity: 2 major · 25 moderate · 11 minor.
From our pharmacist’s overview on the Eletriptan page
“Eletriptan (Relpax) treats migraines by acting on serotonin receptors, which is exactly why I want you to slow down with this list. Twenty of the 38 ingredients here also raise serotonin, and stacking them on a triptan risks serotonin syndrome, where too much serotonin brings agitation, sweating, and a racing heart.”

About Ashwagandha
What is Ashwagandha?
- Stress and anxiety
- Sleep problems
- Fatigue and low energy
- Athletic performance
- General well-being (adaptogen)
Ashwagandha is an Ayurvedic herb most often taken to help with stress, anxiety, and sleep, and some small studies suggest it may help, though the evidence is still limited. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, but it should be avoided in pregnancy and used cautiously by people with thyroid or liver problems. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.
About Eletriptan
What Is Eletriptan Used For?
Brand name: Relpax
Eletriptan is used for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults. That means it treats an attack that has already started. The tablet products covered here (Eletriptan Hydrobromide, Eletriptan HBR and Relpax) share this use.
It is not meant to prevent migraines. Safety and effectiveness have not been established for cluster headache. It should only be used when migraine has been clearly diagnosed.
