Here's the gist: bay leaf may gently nudge your blood sugar downward on its own. Apidra (insulin glulisine) is a fast-acting mealtime insulin whose whole job is to lower blood sugar. So if you stack a concentrated bay leaf supplement on top of your insulin, the two could add up and push your sugar too low. Watch for the usual signs of a low, like shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, confusion, or sudden hunger.

Keep this in perspective. The concern is mostly theoretical and based on how bay leaf behaves, not strong studies. The bay leaf you toss in a soup is not a worry. Concentrated capsules or essential oils are a different story. If you want to try one, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and watch your glucose closely.

Apidra and Apidra SoloStar are used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in adult and pediatric patients with diabetes mellitus. This includes both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Because insulin glulisine works very quickly, it is typically used around mealtimes to control the rise in blood sugar that happens after eating. It is generally used alongside a longer-acting insulin as part of a complete diabetes regimen.
