Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Codeine, Salicylamide
Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Codeine, Salicylamide falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Black Tea interacts with.
Black tea contains caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to keep in mind: this combination pill already contains caffeine right alongside the acetaminophen, codeine, and salicylamide. When you add a cup or two of black tea, you're simply stacking more caffeine on top of what's already in the tablet. There's no deep enzyme story here, just two caffeine sources adding up.
For most people this is mild, but you may notice more jitteriness, a faster heartbeat, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge. Interestingly, the codeine part can make you drowsy, so the caffeine partly offsets that. A normal amount of tea is usually fine, but if you're caffeine-sensitive or drinking a lot, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
