Amitriptyline, Perphenazine falls under PHENOTHIAZINES — the group Black Tea interacts with.

Theoretically, phenothiazines might increase the levels and adverse effects of caffeine. Also, black tea may bind to phenothiazines and reduce their absorption.
Black tea contains caffeine. Phenothiazines can reduce the metabolism of caffeine by inhibiting cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2). Additionally, the tannins in black tea may bind to phenothiazines in the gastrointestinal tract and reduce their absorption.

Here's the gist with your Triavil (that's amitriptyline plus perphenazine) and black tea. This is a minor, mostly theoretical concern, so don't lose sleep over it. Two small things can happen. First, the perphenazine part can slow how your body clears caffeine, so a cup of tea might hit you a little harder than usual (think jitters, a faster heartbeat, or trouble sleeping). Second, the tannins in black tea may bind to the medicine in your stomach and slightly reduce how much you absorb.

For most people, a normal cup or two won't cause real problems. If you want to be tidy about it, try spacing your tea an hour or two from your dose. Anything new or bothersome, check with your pharmacist.

TRICYCLIC ANTIDEPRESSANTS (TCAs)

Amitriptyline, Perphenazine also falls under TRICYCLIC ANTIDEPRESSANTS (TCAs).

Theoretically, TCAs might bind with black tea constituents when taken at the same time.
In vitro research suggests that the tannins in black tea might cause precipitation of TCAs. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Triavil (which combines amitriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant, with perphenazine): black tea contains plant compounds called tannins, and in a test tube these tannins can grab onto tricyclic medicines and form a clump. The worry is that if they bind in your stomach, a little less of the medicine might get absorbed, which in theory could make it work less well for mood or for the perphenazine portion.

The good news is this has only been seen in lab studies, never reported in actual people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you'd like to play it safe, just space your tea an hour or two away from your dose. Don't change anything on your own. A quick chat with your pharmacist can confirm the right timing for you.
