Why this applies to Anagrelide

Anagrelide falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that certain flavonoid constituents from breadfruit root extract can inhibit thromboxane formation and reduce platelet aggregation.
Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the gist: anagrelide already lowers your platelets and makes them less sticky, which is exactly what it's supposed to do for your blood disorder. Breadfruit, at least in lab studies, seems to do a little of the same thing. Some of its plant compounds may slow platelet clumping. So in theory, stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk up a bit, showing up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based only on test-tube research, not real patients. Eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated leaf or root extracts are the bigger question mark. Before adding any breadfruit supplement, please check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Brand name: Agrylin

Both Agrylin and generic anagrelide capsules are used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms — a condition where bone marrow disorders cause dangerously high platelet counts. The goal is to bring platelet counts down, lower the risk of dangerous blood clots (thrombosis), and ease related symptoms including bleeding and clotting events.
