Breadfruit + Fruquintinib
Fruquintinib brand name: Fruzaqla.
Breadfruit has a minor interaction with Fruquintinib. Theoretically, breadfruit might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes; until more is known, use with caution.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Fruquintinib
Fruquintinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone), sertraline (Zoloft), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with breadfruit and Fruzaqla (fruquintinib). Fruquintinib is a targeted cancer pill that your body partly clears using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes and animal studies, a compound in breadfruit leaves seems to slow that enzyme down a little. If that happened in a person, fruquintinib could build up slightly, which in theory could mean more of its usual side effects like high blood pressure, fatigue, hand-foot skin reactions, or mouth sores.
The important part: this is only theoretical and comes from weak, non-human evidence, so we don't know if it truly matters. Eating breadfruit as a food is very unlikely to be an issue. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger unknown. Since fruquintinib is a serious drug, please run any breadfruit supplement past your oncology team first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fruquintinib page
“Fruquintinib (Fruzaqla) is an oral targeted therapy for advanced colorectal cancer, which means keeping its blood level steady is part of what makes it work, and I would treat this supplement list with genuine care. Of the 168 ingredients on file, the large majority interact through CYP3A4, the liver enzyme that clears the drug, so the…”

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
About Fruquintinib
What Is Fruquintinib Used For?
Brand name: Fruzaqla
Fruzaqla (fruquintinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) — colorectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is specifically for patients who have already been treated with several standard chemotherapy regimens and other targeted therapies.
Fruzaqla is intended for patients who have previously received fluoropyrimidine-, oxaliplatin-, and irinotecan-based chemotherapy, an anti-VEGF therapy, and — if their tumor is RAS wild-type and it is medically appropriate — an anti-EGFR therapy.
