Breadfruit + Isavuconazonium Sulfate
Breadfruit has a minor interaction with Isavuconazonium Sulfate. Theoretically, breadfruit might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes; until more is known, use with caution.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Isavuconazonium Sulfate
Isavuconazonium Sulfate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Breadfruit interacts with.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone), sertraline (Zoloft), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Your antifungal, Cresemba (isavuconazonium), is cleared from your body partly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab and animal studies suggest a compound in breadfruit leaves may gently slow that same enzyme. In theory, if breadfruit slowed the breakdown of your medicine, more of it could linger in your system, which might mean a bit more nausea, headache, stomach upset, or liver irritation.
The good news: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal data, not real patients, and it's rated minor. Eating breadfruit as a food almost certainly won't matter. Concentrated leaf teas or extracts are the bigger question mark. Since this antifungal treats a serious infection, please run any breadfruit supplement by your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Isavuconazonium Sulfate page
“People taking isavuconazonium sulfate (Cresemba) are treating serious invasive fungal infections, often with an immune system already compromised, and that is exactly why this list calls for real vigilance. All 121 entries involve the same liver enzyme, CYP3A4, which the body uses to process this antifungal.”

About Breadfruit
What is Breadfruit?
- Source of nutrition and energy
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes and blood sugar support
- Inflammation and joint discomfort
- Skin conditions
Breadfruit is a starchy tropical fruit eaten as a staple food, and its leaves are used in traditional medicine for conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes. As a food it is nutritious and generally safe, but the medicinal use of leaf teas or extracts has very little human research to back it up. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using breadfruit products for a health condition.
