Why this applies to Nitroprusside

Nitroprusside falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Breadfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension. Animal research shows that breadfruit leaf extract can decrease heart rate and weaken the force of heart muscle contractions, which may lower blood pressure.
Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDIURIL), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the thing to know: nitroprusside (Nitropress) is a powerful IV medicine given only in a hospital, usually in an intensive care setting, to bring down dangerously high blood pressure or to manage heart conditions. It's already monitored very closely with frequent blood pressure checks. The concern with breadfruit is that leaf extracts may, in theory, lower blood pressure and gently slow the heart, based mostly on animal studies. Stacked on top of nitroprusside, that could in principle add to a blood pressure drop, leaving you dizzy, lightheaded, or faint.

In real life, this overlap is unlikely because nitroprusside is given by trained staff who adjust the dose minute to minute. Eating breadfruit as food is not the worry. Still, mention any breadfruit supplements to your care team.
