GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS
Why this applies to Conjugated Estrogens, Medroxyprogesterone Acetate
Conjugated Estrogens, Medroxyprogesterone Acetate falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Brussels Sprout interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: your body partly clears estrogen by attaching a sugar molecule to it (a process called glucuronidation), and then sending it out. Eating a lot of cabbage and Brussels sprouts seems to speed up that clean-out pathway. In theory, that could nudge your estrogen levels a bit lower, which might mean your Prempro works slightly less well. You could notice more of the symptoms it's meant to control, like hot flashes, night sweats, or vaginal dryness.
Now, don't overthink your dinner. Normal food amounts of Brussels sprouts are very unlikely to cause real trouble, and this concern is largely theoretical. If you regularly eat huge servings or take concentrated cruciferous extracts, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor rather than changing anything yourself.
