GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS
Why this applies to Lorazepam
Lorazepam falls under GLUCURONIDATED DRUGS — the group Brussels Sprout interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the gist for Lorazepam (Ativan): your body clears it through a process called glucuronidation, basically tagging the drug so the kidneys can flush it out. Some research suggests that eating a diet rich in cabbage and Brussels sprouts can speed up that tagging process. In theory, that could move lorazepam out of your system a bit faster, which might make it feel slightly less effective at calming anxiety or helping you sleep.
Honestly, this is a mild and somewhat theoretical concern. Normal dinner-sized servings of Brussels sprouts are very unlikely to throw off your anxiety control. If you're loading up on large amounts daily and notice your medication isn't working as well, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lorazepam page
“Lorazepam (Ativan) works by slowing brain activity, and that is exactly why this list deserves real caution. Of the 119 supplement and herbal ingredients on file, 78 are themselves nervous-system depressants, so adding them can deepen drowsiness or, at the extreme, slow breathing.”

About Brussels Sprout
What is Brussels Sprout?
- General nutrition and fiber
- Antioxidant support
- Digestive health
- Heart health support
- Cancer-prevention interest
Brussels sprouts are a nutritious cruciferous vegetable rich in fiber, vitamin C, vitamin K, and plant compounds called glucosinolates. Eating them as part of a balanced diet is healthy and safe for most people, but supplement-style claims (like preventing cancer) are not well proven. If you take blood thinners or have thyroid concerns, talk with your pharmacist or doctor about your intake.
About Lorazepam
What Is Lorazepam Used For?
Brand name: Ativan
Lorazepam tablets (Ativan and generic) and the oral solution are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms, including anxiety that comes with depressive symptoms. Loreev XR, an extended-release capsule, is specifically indicated for adults with anxiety disorders who are already stable on lorazepam tablets taken three times daily.
Ativan and generic lorazepam injections are used in two additional situations: treating status epilepticus (a medical emergency involving prolonged or repeated seizures) and as a pre-surgery medication in adults to produce sedation, ease anxiety, and reduce memory of events on the day of surgery.
