Caffeine itself isn't broken down by these medicines, and they aren't prodrugs that caffeine would switch on or off. The concern here is indirect: caffeine can nudge your blood sugar slightly, and the studies on this point in both directions, so it's genuinely hard to predict.

Practically speaking, this is rated minor and unlikely, and the evidence is weak. A cup or two of coffee a day usually won't undo the work your diabetes medicine is doing. Just stay aware of how you feel and keep an eye on your readings if you log them. If you notice unusual highs, lows, jitteriness, or a racing heart, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with your Invokamet (which is canagliflozin plus metformin) and your coffee or tea: the interaction we have on file actually runs the other direction from what most people expect. It's the metformin part that may slow down how your body clears caffeine, so caffeine could linger a bit longer. That might mean more of the usual caffeine effects, like jitteriness, a faster heartbeat, or trouble sleeping.

The good news is this is only a theoretical, minor concern. It showed up in animal studies and hasn't actually been reported in people. Your normal cup or two should be fine for most folks.
