Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: Lemborexant (Dayvigo) is already a sleep medicine that calms brain activity to help you nod off. The dream herb Calea zacatechichi has shown its own calming, sedative-type effects in both animal and human reports. Put the two together and they may stack on top of each other.

What that could look like in real life is feeling more drowsy than expected, groggy or foggy the next morning, dizziness, or trouble staying steady if you get up during the night. To be fair, this concern is theoretical and based on how the herb behaves, not on solid studies with this exact drug, so it's a minor flag rather than an alarm. Still, before pairing them, run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Lemborexant page

“Lemborexant (Dayvigo) works by quieting the brain's wake signals, so the biggest risks on this list come from anything else that sedates you. Alcohol sits at the top; a drink layered over a dose can deepen drowsiness into real impairment, and a few entries carry the added danger of slowed breathing.”
