Ropeginterferon alfa-2b-njft falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyllin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyllin with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.

Here's the simple version. Besremi (ropeginterferon) is one of those medicines that can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so you may sunburn faster or notice rashes more easily. Chlorophyllin has also been linked to sun sensitivity in some reports. Put the two together and the concern is that those effects could stack up, leaving your skin a little more reactive to sunlight than usual.

This is mostly a theoretical worry, based on case reports rather than strong studies, so I don't want you to panic. A practical move is to be good about sunscreen, hats, and shade while you're on both. If you've already started chlorophyllin or are thinking about it, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on your skin.

What Is Ropeginterferon alfa-2b Used For?

Brand name: Besremi

BESREMi (ropeginterferon alfa-2b) is used to treat two conditions in adults: polycythemia vera, a bone marrow disorder where the body makes too many red blood cells, and essential thrombocythemia, a condition where the bone marrow makes too many platelets.

Both conditions are given as subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injections of BESREMi, including the BESREMi Pen delivery option.
