Ciprofloxacin falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyllin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyllin with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.

Here's the deal with this pair. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and one of its well-known quirks is that it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may sunburn faster than usual. Chlorophyllin has also been linked to sun sensitivity in some reports. Put them together and the worry is that those effects could stack, leaving your skin extra reactive to UV light.

This is mostly a theoretical concern, not a guaranteed reaction. While you're on Cipro, it's smart to use sunscreen, wear a hat, and limit strong midday sun, whether or not you take chlorophyllin. If you'd like to use this supplement alongside your antibiotic, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Ciprofloxacin belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. It's prescribed to treat bacterial infections in many parts of the body — including the urinary tract, skin, lungs, bones, joints, and digestive system. It's also used to protect against or treat anthrax and plague after exposure.

Because ciprofloxacin carries real risks, it's reserved for milder conditions like sinus infections, simple bladder infections, and flare-ups of chronic bronchitis only when there are no safer alternatives available.
