Chlorophyllin is a semi-synthetic derivative of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. Orally, chlorophyll has also been associated with the development of pseudoporphyria in multiple case reports.

Here's the thing to know if you're pairing chlorophyllin with chlorpheniramine: this isn't about chlorpheniramine being broken down differently or building up in your system. Instead, both can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Chlorpheniramine, like many older antihistamines, is listed as a drug that can cause photosensitivity, and chlorophyllin may add to that effect. So taken together, you could be more likely to get an exaggerated sunburn or a rash on sun-exposed skin.

Honestly, this connection is mostly theoretical and based on case reports, not strong proof. It's not a reason to panic. Just be smart with sunscreen, hats, and shade while using both, and check in with your pharmacist or doctor if you notice unusual skin reactions.

What Is Chlorpheniramine Used For?

Brand names: Chlor-Trimeton, Teldrin

Chlorpheniramine is used to temporarily relieve common allergy symptoms caused by hay fever (allergic rhinitis) or other upper respiratory allergies. These include runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

These uses are supported across multiple products — including tablets (such as Aller-chlor, Allergy, Allergy Relief, Allergy Time, Anti Allergy, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate), extended-release tablets (Allergy Relief and Chlorphen-12), the oral solution Ed Chlorped Jr, and the inhalers ClorRelief and ClorRelief KIDs.
