Atomoxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Cinchona interacts with.

Theoretically, taking cinchona might inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) and increase levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme.
Quinidine, a constituent of cinchona, inhibits CYP2D6-mediated metabolism in humans.

Here's the thing to know about Strattera (atomoxetine): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break it down and clear it out. Cinchona bark contains quinidine, which is known to block that same enzyme. So in theory, pairing the two could let atomoxetine build up higher than expected. Atomoxetine is an active drug, not a prodrug, so more of it sticking around means a stronger effect and a greater chance of side effects like a faster heartbeat, higher blood pressure, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, decreased appetite, or feeling jittery.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how the enzyme works, not a heavily documented event. Still, since cinchona itself can be risky for your heart, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Atomoxetine Used For?

Brand name: Strattera

Atomoxetine — available as capsules (Atomoxetine, Atomoxetine Hydrochloride, Strattera) and as an oral solution (Atomoxetine Hydrochloride, Atoncy) — is approved for the treatment of ADHD in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older. It is meant to be part of a total treatment program that may also include psychological, educational, and social supports.

ADHD is diagnosed when persistent symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity cause meaningful problems in daily life — at school, at work, or at home — in more than one setting. Atomoxetine is not approved to treat major depressive disorder.
