QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS
Why this applies to Fluticasone Proprionate, Salmeterol
Fluticasone Proprionate, Salmeterol falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Cinchona interacts with.
Quinidine and quinine, which are constituents of cinchona, prolong the QT interval.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version on AirDuo (fluticasone plus salmeterol) and cinchona bark. The salmeterol part is a long-acting bronchodilator, and like other drugs in its class it can very slightly stretch out the heart's electrical recovery time, something called the QT interval. Cinchona contains quinine and quinidine, which can do the same thing. On paper, stacking the two could add up and raise the chance of an irregular heartbeat.
This is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not something proven in studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, cinchona bark is unpredictable and can be hard on the heart on its own. The safest move is to check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you have any heart rhythm issues.

“Airduo Respiclick pairs fluticasone propionate with salmeterol to control asthma, and salmeterol is the half that makes supplement choices matter. It is cleared by the CYP3A4 enzyme and can affect heart rhythm when its levels climb, and seven of the 144 interacting ingredients carry a major rating, enough that I read this page as a gen…”

About Cinchona
What is Cinchona?
- Malaria (historical/traditional)
- Fever
- Leg cramps and restless legs
- Digestive upset and loss of appetite
- Bitter tonic
Cinchona bark is the natural source of quinine and has been used for centuries to treat malaria and fever, but the bark itself is not standardized and can be unpredictable and risky. Modern medicine uses purified, dose-controlled quinine instead, and the supplement form carries real dangers, including serious heart and blood problems. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy.
