Here's the thing to keep an eye on with NyQuil. It already contains two ingredients that can make you drowsy: doxylamine (a sedating antihistamine) and dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant). Corydalis yanhusuo is thought to have its own calming, sedative-type effects on the brain. So putting the two together could stack that sleepiness on top of each other.

In plain terms, you might feel extra groggy, foggy, dizzy, or harder to wake up than you'd expect from NyQuil alone. I want to be honest though: this concern is theoretical, based on how these things work and some animal data, not strong human studies. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't drive until you know how you react.

Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo may increase serum levels of dextromethorphan.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Preliminary clinical research shows that berberine can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity and reduce the metabolism of dextromethorphan. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo may also inhibit the metabolism of dextromethorphan.

NyQuil is a combo product, and the piece that matters here is the dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant). Your body clears dextromethorphan using a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Corydalis yanhusuo contains compounds, including berberine, that may slow that enzyme down. If the enzyme works slower, dextromethorphan can build up in your system more than usual.

In plain terms, you might feel more of its side effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, or a foggy, lightheaded feeling, on top of the doxylamine in NyQuil that already makes you sleepy. I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these things behave in the lab, not a proven problem in people. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before combining them.
