Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Diphenhydramine
Acetaminophen, Diphenhydramine falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Animal research suggests that berberine may have sedative effects. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also have CNS depressants effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Tylenol PM combines acetaminophen (the pain and fever reliever) with diphenhydramine, the same antihistamine found in Benadryl. That diphenhydramine is what makes you drowsy, and it can already leave you feeling groggy, foggy, or unsteady, especially the next morning. Corydalis may have its own calming, sedative-type effect on the brain, so stacking the two could, in theory, make you sleepier or more lightheaded than you'd expect.
I want to be honest that this concern comes from lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, particularly if you drive, work, or feel unsteady on your feet.
