Here's the piece that matters in Actifed DM: the cough-suppressant part, dextromethorphan, gets cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Corydalis is thought to slow that same enzyme down. If it does, dextromethorphan could hang around longer and build up, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy. The pseudoephedrine and triprolidine pieces are less affected by this particular enzyme.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is theoretical, based on lab work, not real patient reports, so the actual risk is likely small. Still, since both can cause sleepiness on their own, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Here's the gist with Actifed DM (dextromethorphan, pseudoephedrine, and triprolidine). The dextromethorphan part is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Corydalis contains compounds, including berberine, that may slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, if dextromethorphan is broken down more slowly, a little more could build up in your body.

If that happened, you might feel more of dextromethorphan's usual effects, like drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy. The good news: this is a theoretical concern based on lab work, not strong human studies, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, since this combo also has sedating and stimulant ingredients, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before mixing them.

Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Preliminary clinical research shows that berberine can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity and reduce the metabolism of dextromethorphan. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo may also inhibit the metabolism of dextromethorphan.
