Here's the gist for Balversa (erdafitinib). This cancer medicine is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine, which early research suggests may slow that same enzyme down. If it does, your body could clear erdafitinib a little more slowly, meaning more of it builds up in your blood. That could mean stronger side effects, things like dry mouth, mouth sores, nail and skin changes, diarrhea, or vision changes from fluid behind the eye.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab work, not proven in people taking both together. Still, erdafitinib is a serious oncology drug, so please don't add corydalis without first checking with your oncology team or pharmacist.

Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical research show that berberine moderately inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the gist with erdafitinib (Balversa): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear it. Corydalis contains berberine, which lab work and small human studies suggest can modestly slow that same enzyme down. If clearance slows, more erdafitinib can linger in your system, which could nudge up side effects like dry or sore mouth, changes in your nails or skin, eye problems (blurry vision, dry eyes), high phosphate levels, or diarrhea.

That said, this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not proven harm in people taking them together. Still, erdafitinib is a serious cancer medicine with careful dosing, so please loop in your oncology team or pharmacist before adding Corydalis rather than starting or stopping anything on your own.

About Erdafitinib

What Is Erdafitinib Used For?

Brand name: Balversa

Balversa (erdafitinib) is used to treat adults with locally advanced or metastatic urothelial carcinoma (UC) — cancer of the bladder or urinary tract — that has spread and has not responded to, or has gotten worse after, at least one prior round of systemic treatment. Patients must have a specific type of FGFR3 genetic alteration in their tumor, confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting.

Balversa is not recommended for patients who are eligible for — but have not yet received — a PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitor (a type of immunotherapy). Those therapies should be tried first when appropriate.
