Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil) already tends to make people drowsy, dizzy, or a little foggy, especially when you first start it. Corydalis yanhusuo may have its own mild calming, sedating effect based on lab and animal studies. So the worry is that stacking the two could leave you feeling sleepier or more unsteady than you'd expect.

Keep in mind this is theoretical. It comes from how these compounds behave in animals, not from solid human studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, since extra sedation could mean trouble driving or a higher fall risk, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Don't change your gabapentin on your own.

“Alcohol tops the list of supplement and food risks for gabapentin enacarbil (Horizant), a nerve pain and restless legs medicine that already slows the central nervous system.
