Lorlatinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with.

Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical research show that berberine moderately inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for Lorbrena (lorlatinib): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down. Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine, which lab and early human research suggests can mildly slow that same enzyme. If CYP3A4 works slower, lorlatinib could clear out less quickly and build up a bit higher than expected.

For lorlatinib, more drug in your system can mean stronger side effects, things like high cholesterol or triglycerides, swelling, mood or memory changes, fatigue, or slow heartbeat. I'll be honest though, this is a theoretical concern based on how the herb behaves, not proven in people taking these together. Because lung cancer treatment is so important, please don't add this supplement without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Lorlatinib Used For?

Brand name: Lorbrena

Lorbrena (lorlatinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — meaning lung cancer that has spread — when lab testing confirms the tumor is ALK-positive (has a specific gene change that drives cancer growth). Patients must be tested with an FDA-approved diagnostic test before starting treatment.

Lorbrena has been studied in patients who have not yet received treatment for advanced disease, as well as in patients whose cancer progressed on other ALK-targeting medicines.
