Mexiletine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with.

Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence show that berberine can inhibit CYP2D6. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP2D6.

Here's the gist for your heart rhythm medicine. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break down and clear mexiletine. Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine, which lab studies and some early human research suggest can slow that same enzyme down. If that happens, mexiletine may not be cleared as quickly and could build up in your blood.

More mexiletine than intended can mean more side effects, things like nausea, dizziness, tremor, blurred vision, or in higher amounts, worsening heart rhythm problems. I'll be honest, this is theoretical and based mostly on lab work, not solid human trials. But since mexiletine is a narrow-margin heart drug, even small shifts matter. Please check with your pharmacist or cardiologist before combining them.

About Mexiletine

What Is Mexiletine Used For?

Brand name: Mexitil

Mexiletine Hydrochloride capsules are indicated for the treatment of documented, life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias — for example, sustained ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm originating in the lower chambers). Because mexiletine itself can trigger arrhythmias, it is not recommended for minor or symptom-free irregular heartbeats.

Treatment is started in a hospital setting so heart rhythm can be monitored closely. Antiarrhythmic drugs, including mexiletine, have not been shown to improve overall survival in patients with ventricular arrhythmias.
