Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro and in vivo research suggest that berberine can inhibit platelet aggregation. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit platelet aggregation.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Spinraza (nusinersen). The concern on file is about bleeding, because corydalis may have a mild blood-thinning effect (it can slightly reduce how well platelets clump together). On its own, this is based only on lab and animal data, so it's a theoretical worry, not something proven in people.

Why does it matter for Spinraza specifically? Spinraza is given as a spinal injection (into the fluid around the spinal cord). Anything that nudges you toward easier bleeding could, in theory, raise the risk of bruising or bleeding around that injection site. I wouldn't panic, but please tell your care team you're using corydalis before your next dose so they can check for any bleeding signs.

What Is Nusinersen Injection Used For?

Brand name: Spinraza

Spinraza (nusinersen) is used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — a genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness by reducing the body's ability to make a protein called SMN (survival motor neuron). Spinraza is approved for pediatric and adult patients with SMA.

Spinraza is given by intrathecal injection — directly into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord — so the medicine can reach the central nervous system where it's needed most.
