These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with whole categories of medication. Sitagliptin, Metformin falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Corydalis Yanhusuo in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Sitagliptin, Metformin
Sitagliptin, Metformin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. Clinical research shows that berberine may lower blood glucose levels. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also lower blood glucose levels.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your Zituvimet combines two blood-sugar-lowering medicines, and Corydalis yanhusuo may contain berberine, a plant compound that can also nudge blood sugar downward on its own. Stack the two together and, in theory, your blood sugar could drop lower than intended. That's why this is flagged as a possible concern.
I want to be honest about the strength here. This is a theoretical interaction based on how these compounds behave, not solid human studies on the combination. Still, if your sugars run low you could feel shaky, sweaty, dizzy, or unusually tired. If you're thinking about adding Corydalis, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and keep an eye on your glucose readings so nothing catches you off guard.

METFORMIN (Glucophage)
2 of 2Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro and animal studies show that berberine can increase the systemic exposure and half-life of metformin, potentially increasing metformin's effects and side effects. This interaction seems to be most apparent when berberine is administered 2 hours prior to metformin. Taking berberine and metformin at the same time does not appear to increase systemic exposure to metformin. It is unclear if Corydalis yanhusuo might have this same effect.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Your Zituvimet combines two diabetes medicines: sitagliptin and metformin. The possible concern here is with the metformin part. Corydalis yanhusuo may contain berberine, and in lab and animal studies berberine kept more metformin in the body for longer. That could boost metformin's blood-sugar lowering along with its side effects, things like nausea, upset stomach, diarrhea, and a higher chance of low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, dizziness).
I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based on berberine rather than corydalis itself, so we don't truly know if the herb behaves the same way. Interestingly, the effect showed up mainly when berberine was taken a couple hours before metformin. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your diabetes medicine on your own.
