Here's the gist for Oxbryta (voxelotor): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medicine. Corydalis contains berberine, which lab and early human research suggests may slow that same enzyme down a bit. If that happens, voxelotor could clear more slowly and build up a little higher in your blood, which might nudge up side effects like headache, nausea, belly pain, or diarrhea.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is theoretical, based mostly on how the herb behaves in the lab, not on real-world reports with voxelotor. So it's a caution, not an alarm. Since voxelotor matters for managing sickle cell disease, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Corydalis rather than changing anything on your own.

Oxbryta (voxelotor) is approved to treat sickle cell disease (SCD) in adults and in children as young as 4 years old. It works by targeting the underlying problem in sickle cell disease — the abnormal hemoglobin that causes red blood cells to take on a rigid, sickle shape.

This approval was granted under the FDA's accelerated approval pathway, based on the drug's ability to raise hemoglobin levels. Continued approval may depend on results from confirmatory clinical trials showing broader clinical benefit.
