Ziprasidone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Corydalis Yanhusuo interacts with.

Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Corydalis yanhusuo contains berberine. In vitro research and preliminary clinical research show that berberine moderately inhibits CYP3A4. Theoretically, Corydalis yanhusuo might also inhibit CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for ziprasidone (Geodon): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear this medicine out of your body. Corydalis contains berberine, which lab and early human studies suggest can mildly slow that same enzyme. The worry is that, in theory, the herb could let ziprasidone build up a bit higher than usual.

With more ziprasidone hanging around, you might feel extra drowsy or dizzy, or notice more lightheadedness when standing. The bigger concern with this drug is its effect on heart rhythm (QT prolongation), so anything that raises its levels deserves caution. That said, this interaction is theoretical, not proven, so please don't panic. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your ziprasidone on your own.

What Is Ziprasidone Used For?

Ziprasidone is prescribed for adults with schizophrenia and for adults experiencing manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder. It can be used on its own for acute manic or mixed episodes, or added to lithium or valproate to help maintain stability in bipolar I disorder long-term.

An injectable form is also available for rapid control of agitation in people with schizophrenia who need quick relief. Prescribers are advised to weigh ziprasidone's potential effect on heart rhythm when choosing among treatment options.
