Here's the idea behind this pairing. Protriptyline (Vivactil) is a tricyclic antidepressant, and part of how it works in the body comes with anticholinergic effects, meaning it tends to dampen the activity of acetylcholine. Deanol is thought to do the opposite and nudge acetylcholine levels up. So in theory, taking deanol could work against some of protriptyline's anticholinergic side, like its drying effects.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. It's rated minor and unlikely, and it's only theoretical based on how these compounds behave, not from real patient cases. Protriptyline isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about activation. Still, since deanol's brain effects in people aren't well proven, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
