Why this applies to Betamethasone Dipropionate

Betamethasone Dipropionate falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Diosmin interacts with.

Theoretically, diosmin might increase levels of drugs that are substrates of P-glycoprotein (P-gp).
Preliminary laboratory research suggests that diosmin inhibits P-gp. Additionally, pharmacokinetic research in healthy male subjects shows that taking diosmin (Venex) 500 mg daily for 10 days prior to oral administration of fexofenadine 120 mg increases blood levels of fexofenadine, a P-gp substrate, by approximately 49% and decreases the apparent oral clearance of fexofenadine by 41%. The time taken to reach maximum plasma concentration, the half-life, and the apparent renal clearance of fexofenadine are not affected. For this reason, it is speculated that diosmin inhibits P-gp in the intestine, but not in the kidney or liver.

Here's the good news on this pairing: the product you're asking about, Sernivo (betamethasone dipropionate), is a cream or spray you put right on your skin. The interaction on file is about diosmin possibly blocking a transporter called P-glycoprotein in the gut, which mainly affects medicines you swallow. A topical steroid acts locally on the skin, so a flavonoid you take by mouth isn't going to meaningfully change how it works.

On top of that, this concern is theoretical and based on lab and animal data, not on real-world reports with steroid creams. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you ever switch to an oral or injected steroid, it's worth a quick check with your pharmacist, but for the topical form, this is very low concern.

What Is Betamethasone Topical Used For?

Brand name: Sernivo

Betamethasone topical is used to relieve the redness, swelling, and itching of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses (skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment). Sernivo Spray is specifically approved for plaque psoriasis of the body. Diprolene (topical cream, ointment, or gel) is indicated for inflammatory and itchy skin conditions in patients 13 years of age and older.

This medication is for use on the skin only. It is not approved for use on the face, groin, or underarms, and it is not for use in the eyes, mouth, or vagina.
