Linezolid falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.

Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.

Here's something many people don't realize about linezolid: besides being an antibiotic, it also acts like a mild MAO inhibitor, which means it can raise serotonin levels in your body. Garcinia (through its hydroxycitric acid) has been linked, in a small number of reports, to boosting serotonin too. Put the two together and you could, in theory, nudge serotonin too high.

If that happened, you might feel agitated or restless, sweaty, shaky, have a racing heart, or feel your muscles twitch. That cluster is called serotonin syndrome, and it can rarely become serious. To be fair, the evidence here is thin (just a couple of anecdotal cases with antidepressants, not linezolid itself), so this is more caution than certainty. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

About Linezolid

What Is Linezolid Used For?

Brand names: Zyvox, Zyvox Injection

Linezolid — available as Zyvox and in generic forms — is used to treat infections caused by certain drug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. It is approved for adults and children for nosocomial pneumonia (hospital-acquired lung infection), community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin and skin structure infections (including diabetic foot infections, but only when bone infection is not also present), uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections.

It is important to know that linezolid does not work against Gram-negative bacteria. If a Gram-negative infection is also present or suspected, a separate antibiotic must be started right away. Linezolid should only be used for infections that are confirmed or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria, to help prevent antibiotic resistance.
