Why this applies to Flurbiprofen

Flurbiprofen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Goji interacts with.

Theoretically, goji berry might inhibit CYP2C9 and reduce metabolism of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that goji berry tincture and juice inhibit CYP2C9 enzymes. Additionally, multiple case reports suggest that goji berry concentrated tea and juice inhibit the metabolism of warfarin, a CYP2C9 substrate. Concomitant use with goji may decrease metabolism and increase levels of CYP2C9 substrates.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to clear flurbiprofen. Goji, especially in concentrated forms like tinctures, juices, or strong teas, may slow that enzyme down. If clearance drops, more flurbiprofen can linger in your system, which could mean stronger effects and a higher chance of typical NSAID side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, ulcers or bleeding, fluid retention, or kidney strain.

I want to be honest about the evidence though. This is mostly theoretical, based on lab studies and a few warfarin case reports, not solid flurbiprofen data. A few goji berries as food are unlikely to be an issue. If you use concentrated goji supplements regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Flurbiprofen tablets (sold as Flurbiprofen and Lurbiro) are used to relieve the pain, swelling, and stiffness of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Flurbiprofen Sodium eye drops are a separate product used during eye surgery — specifically to keep the pupil from constricting (getting smaller) while the procedure is underway. This use applies only to the ophthalmic (eye drop) form.
