Goji and Dulaglutide

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Dulaglutide

Dulaglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Goji interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of goji fruit polysaccharides or goji root bark with antidiabetes drugs might have additive effects.
Animal and in vitro research show that goji root bark and fruit polysaccharides might have hypoglycemic effects. However, clinical research has only shown that taking goji fruit polysaccharides with or without antidiabetes drugs modestly reduces postprandial glucose when compared with control, with no reports of hypoglycemia.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence B

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: goji berries, especially concentrated supplements made from the fruit polysaccharides or root bark, may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of their own. Since Trulicity (dulaglutide) is already working to bring your blood sugar down, stacking the two could nudge your numbers a little lower than expected. This is an additive effect, not goji changing how dulaglutide is processed in your body.

Honestly, the evidence here is on the weaker side. Studies show goji modestly lowers post-meal glucose, but no actual cases of dangerous low blood sugar were reported. Eating goji berries as a food is very unlikely to matter. If you're using a concentrated goji supplement, just keep an eye out for signs like shakiness, sweating, or dizziness, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dulaglutide page

“Because dulaglutide (Trulicity) already lowers blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes, nearly every entry on this page deserves genuine respect, and one demands it outright. Almost all of these supplements pull glucose in one direction or the other, so the danger that matters most is hypoglycemia, blood sugar dropping too low.”
