Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Amoxicillin, Omeprazole Magnesium, Rifabutin
Amoxicillin, Omeprazole Magnesium, Rifabutin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Goldthread interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Talicia is a combo of three medicines used to knock out H. pylori stomach infection. The piece that matters here is rifabutin, which your liver clears using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Goldthread contains berberine, which in lab studies looks like it might slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, rifabutin could build up a bit, and you'd watch for things like nausea, stomach upset, a harmless orange-red tint to urine or tears, or rarely changes in blood counts.
The good news: this is only a theoretical concern based on how berberine behaves in test tubes, and it hasn't actually been reported in people. Still, since this is an important infection treatment, please run goldthread past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
