Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the good news: this is a very minor, mostly theoretical concern. Dasiglucagon (Zegalogue) is an emergency rescue medicine you'd use only during a severe low blood sugar episode. It works fast by telling your liver to dump its stored sugar back into your blood. Green tea isn't broken down by or processed alongside dasiglucagon, so there's no real metabolic clash between the two.

The only loose link is that green tea (and its caffeine) might nudge blood sugar up or down a little over time, and the research on that is mixed and weak. That wouldn't stop an emergency dose from working. Still, if you drink a lot of green tea or take concentrated extracts, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so your overall diabetes plan stays on track.

“Dasiglucagon (Zegalogue) is an emergency injection that rapidly raises blood sugar during a severe diabetic low, so a supplement list this large deserves genuine care. All 239 interacting ingredients act through blood glucose, and most of them lower it, deepening the very crashes this drug exists to reverse.”

About Green Tea

What is Green Tea?

Green Tea
  • Antioxidant support
  • Weight loss
  • Heart health
  • Mental alertness
  • Cancer risk reduction

Green tea is a popular beverage rich in antioxidants called catechins, and drinking it in normal amounts is considered safe for most people. Concentrated green tea extracts are a different story—they may help modestly with weight or heart health for some, but high doses have been linked to rare liver problems. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking green tea supplements, especially if you have liver concerns or are pregnant.
