Lapatinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Green Tea interacts with.

Green tea is unlikely to produce clinically significant changes in the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that green tea can inhibit intestinal CYP3A and induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzymes. However, this effect is unlikely to be clinically significant, as green tea does not appear to affect CYP3A4 activity in humans.

Here's the short version on pairing green tea with lapatinib (Tykerb): your body clears lapatinib using a liver and gut enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab and animal studies, green tea seemed to nudge this enzyme in a couple of directions, but in actual human studies it doesn't meaningfully change CYP3A4 activity. So for most people, a normal cup or two of green tea isn't expected to raise or lower your lapatinib levels in a way you'd notice.

The evidence here is weak (test-tube and animal data), so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. That said, concentrated green tea extract capsules are a different animal and can stress the liver, which matters with cancer drugs. Before adding any green tea supplement, check with your oncology team or pharmacist first.

About Lapatinib

What Is Lapatinib Used For?

Brand name: Tykerb

Lapatinib tablets are used in combination with other medicines to treat certain types of advanced or metastatic breast cancer in patients whose tumors overexpress HER2 (a protein that drives tumor growth). It is not used alone.

Specifically, lapatinib tablets are used with capecitabine for HER2-positive advanced or metastatic breast cancer in patients who have already received prior therapy (including certain chemotherapy drugs and trastuzumab). Lapatinib tablets are also used with letrozole for postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer when hormonal therapy is appropriate. Tykerb is the brand name product with these same indicated uses.
