Chlorpropamide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Gymnema interacts with.

Theoretically, taking gymnema with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Gymnema reduces blood glucose levels in some human and animal research. In human studies, it has been shown to enhance the blood glucose lowering effects of hypoglycemic drugs. However, other research in adults with prediabetes or metabolic syndrome suggests that gymnema does not reduce fasting levels of blood glucose. Until more is known, monitor blood glucose levels closely.

Here's the simple version: Chlorpropamide already pushes your blood sugar down by prompting your pancreas to release insulin. Gymnema may gently lower blood sugar too. Stack the two together and those effects can add up, which raises the chance of going too low (hypoglycemia).

Watch for the usual warning signs of low blood sugar, like shakiness, sweating, a racing heart, hunger, confusion, or feeling dizzy. Chlorpropamide is long-acting, so a low can linger longer than with some other diabetes pills. The evidence here is still limited and a bit mixed, so this isn't a reason to panic. If you want to try gymnema, please talk with your pharmacist or doctor first and check your blood sugar more often, especially in the first few weeks.
