Propafenone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Gymnema interacts with.

Theoretically, gymnema might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Animal and in vitro research shows that gymnema can inhibit the CYP1A2 enzyme. In one animal study, oral administration of gymnema for 7 days increased the plasma concentrations of phenacetin, a CYP1A2 substrate, by about 1.4-fold and reduced the clearance of phenacetin by about 29%.

Here's the idea with Gymnema and your Propafenone. Propafenone is partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Lab and animal studies suggest Gymnema can slow that enzyme down a bit. If it slows the breakdown, more Propafenone could linger in your body, which in theory could nudge up its effects and side effects, things like dizziness, a metallic taste, nausea, blurred vision, or feeling your heart rhythm act up.

I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal work, not real human data, so we don't actually know if it matters in people. Still, Propafenone is a heart rhythm medicine where small shifts can count, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Gymnema.

About Propafenone

What Is Propafenone Used For?

Brand names: Rythmol, Arythmol

Propafenone is used to help control abnormal heart rhythms. It is prescribed to delay the return of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (episodic irregular heartbeats in the upper chambers) and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT, sudden fast heartbeats starting above the heart's lower chambers) — but only in people who do not have structural heart disease.

It is also used to treat life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias (dangerous fast rhythms starting in the heart's lower chambers). Because of serious safety concerns, it is not recommended for minor or non-life-threatening heart rhythm problems.
