Gymnema + Fluoxetine
Fluoxetine brand names: Prozac, Sarafem.
Gymnema has a moderate interaction with Fluoxetine. Theoretically, gymnema might increase or decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Fluoxetine
Fluoxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Gymnema interacts with.
Animal research shows that gymnema can induce the CYP2C9 enzyme. In one animal study, gymnema caused a 2.4-fold increase in the clearance of tolbutamide, a CYP2C9 substrate, in rats. In vitro research also shows that gymnema can inhibit CYP2C9.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture: your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to help process fluoxetine (Prozac), and gymnema may nudge that enzyme one way or the other. The catch is that the evidence is very thin. It comes from lab dishes and animal studies, not real people. In rats, gymnema sped up the enzyme, which in theory could lower fluoxetine levels and make it work a little less well. But lab tests also showed it slowing the enzyme, which could push levels up and bring on more side effects like nausea, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or headache.
So we genuinely can't say which direction this would go in you, if anything happens at all. Fluoxetine is not a prodrug, so this is about drug levels, not activation. Before adding gymnema, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fluoxetine page
“Grapefruit is the surprise at the top of fluoxetine's (Prozac) supplement list. In large amounts it can stretch the QT interval, the electrical pause between heartbeats, and fluoxetine, a widely prescribed antidepressant, can do the same, raising the odds of a dangerous rhythm.”

About Gymnema
What is Gymnema?
- Blood sugar support
- Type 2 diabetes
- Sugar cravings
- Weight management
- Cholesterol support
Gymnema is an Ayurvedic herb best known for possibly helping lower blood sugar and reducing the taste of sweetness on the tongue. Some early human studies are encouraging for blood sugar support, but the evidence is still limited and not strong enough to replace standard treatment. If you have diabetes or take other medicines, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.
About Fluoxetine

Fluoxetine Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Fluoxetine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Gymnema — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
