Meloxicam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Gymnema interacts with.

Theoretically, gymnema might increase or decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Animal research shows that gymnema can induce the CYP2C9 enzyme. In one animal study, gymnema caused a 2.4-fold increase in the clearance of tolbutamide, a CYP2C9 substrate, in rats. In vitro research also shows that gymnema can inhibit CYP2C9.

Here's the situation with these two: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break down meloxicam, and gymnema may nudge that enzyme in either direction. In lab and animal studies, gymnema sped the enzyme up in some cases (which could clear meloxicam faster and make it less effective for your arthritis pain and stiffness) but blocked it in others (which could let meloxicam build up, raising the odds of stomach upset, ulcers, or kidney strain).

I want to be honest: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube and rat research, not on people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Meloxicam isn't a prodrug, so it works as-is. Still, since gymnema can also lower blood sugar, just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them.

About Meloxicam

What Is Meloxicam Used For?

Brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso

Meloxicam tablets and oral suspension treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). The oral suspension and Zybic™ oral suspension are approved for JRA in children 2 years and older; meloxicam tablets are approved for JRA in patients who weigh at least 60 kg. Meloxicam capsules are approved specifically for the management of osteoarthritis pain.

Two IV (intravenous) formulations — QAMZOVA and XIFYRM — are indicated for adults for the management of moderate-to-severe pain, used alone or with non-NSAID pain relievers. Because these IV forms take time to reach full effect, they are not recommended when rapid pain relief is needed.
