Here's the thing to know: hibiscus has a mild blood pressure lowering effect of its own. Sodium nitroprusside (Nipride RTU) is a powerful drug given through an IV in a hospital to bring blood pressure down quickly, and it's always closely monitored by doctors and nurses. So the theory on file is that stacking a blood pressure lowering supplement on top of it could push your pressure down a little further, raising the risk of hypotension with symptoms like dizziness, lightheadedness, a fast heartbeat, or feeling faint.

In real life this concern is mostly theoretical and based on pharmacology, not strong human studies with this exact drug. Since nitroprusside is only used in a carefully watched hospital setting, your team adjusts the dose constantly. Still, mention any hibiscus supplements to your care team.
