Why this applies to Cangrelor

Cangrelor falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Jackfruit interacts with.

Theoretically, jackfruit latex might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Jackfruit latex, which is the sap from jackfruit bark, contains chemicals that might increase the risk of bleeding. In vitro research shows that jackfruit latex contains a glycoprotein constituent that prolongs the activated partial thrombin time (aPTT) and reduces the activity of blood coagulation factors XIa and alpha-XIIa. Jackfruit latex also contains a protease constituent that has been shown to have fibrinolytic activity in vitro. Other parts of jackfruit, including the fruit and leaves, have not been shown to contain chemicals with fibrinolytic and anticoagulant activity.

Cangrelor (Kengreal) is a strong intravenous antiplatelet medicine given in the hospital, usually during a heart stent procedure, to keep platelets from clumping and forming clots. On its own it already raises your bleeding risk, which the medical team watches closely.

The concern here is only with jackfruit latex, the sticky sap from the bark, not the fruit you eat. In test-tube studies that sap contains compounds that thin the blood and slow clotting. In theory, stacking that on top of cangrelor could add up to more bleeding, like easy bruising or oozing. Keep in mind this is weak, lab-only evidence, and enjoying jackfruit as food has not shown this effect. Since cangrelor is hospital-administered, your care team controls this, but tell them about any jackfruit supplements you use.
