Here's the honest picture for Pretomanid: the concern on file is about jiaogulan possibly stimulating the immune system, which matters most for medicines that purposely calm the immune system down. Pretomanid isn't one of those. It's an antibiotic-type drug that kills the bacteria causing drug-resistant tuberculosis, and it works alongside bedaquiline and linezolid. So this immune-related worry doesn't really line up with how Pretomanid does its job.

The interaction here is theoretical, based on lab and animal hints rather than studies in people taking Pretomanid. Still, TB treatment is serious and carefully balanced, so I wouldn't add any new supplement on your own. Please run jiaogulan by your pharmacist or TB doctor first before starting it.

About Pretomanid

What Is Pretomanid Used For?

Brand name: Pretomanid

Pretomanid Tablet is used only as part of a three-drug regimen — together with bedaquiline and linezolid — to treat adults with pulmonary (lung) tuberculosis that is resistant to multiple antibiotics, including isoniazid, rifamycins, a fluoroquinolone, and a second-line injectable TB drug. It is also used for adults whose TB is resistant to isoniazid and rifampin and who cannot tolerate or are not responding to standard TB therapy.

Pretomanid Tablets are not for drug-sensitive TB, latent (inactive) TB infection, TB outside the lungs, or TB that responds to standard treatment. They should only be used in combination with bedaquiline and linezolid — safety and effectiveness with other drug combinations have not been established.
