Theoretically, taking lithium supplements with NSAIDs might increase lithium levels and adverse effects.
NSAIDs can decrease the renal clearance of lithium and increase lithium levels. It is unclear if this interaction would be clinically significant with the smaller doses found in lithium supplements.

Here's the connection with Anacin, which combines aspirin and caffeine. The aspirin part is an NSAID (a pain and inflammation reliever). NSAIDs can make your kidneys hold onto lithium instead of flushing it out, so lithium can slowly build up in your blood. Since lithium has a narrow safety window, even a small rise can matter, leading to things like nausea, tremor, unsteadiness, or feeling foggy.

Now, the honest part: this is a theoretical concern based on how the drugs work, and it's really aimed at prescription-strength lithium. With the tiny amounts in lithium supplements, it's unclear whether this matters much. Still, if you take both regularly, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Xanthines such as aminophylline, caffeine, and theophylline (Theo-Dur, Theo-24, others) might increase the clearance of lithium. It is unclear if this interaction would be clinically significant with the smaller doses found in lithium supplements.

Here's the thing to know if you're reaching for Anacin (which is aspirin plus caffeine) while taking a lithium product. It's the caffeine part that matters here. Caffeine can nudge your kidneys to clear lithium out a little faster, which in theory could lower your lithium levels and make it work less well. This is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not something proven in solid human studies.

Honestly, with the tiny amounts of lithium in supplements like lithium orotate, this probably isn't a big deal. The flip side is also worth a thought: if you suddenly stop a regular caffeine habit, lithium can climb. If you're on prescription lithium, that's where this really counts, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
