The piece of this combo product I want to flag is the caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant, and so is ephedra (which contains ephedrine). When you stack two stimulants together, the effects can add up. That can mean a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and a real bump in blood pressure. Since ephedra on its own has been tied to serious problems like dangerous blood pressure spikes and even stroke, adding caffeine could make those risks worse.

To be fair, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on anecdotal reports, not hard studies. But ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good reason, so I would not pair it with anything. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing these.

The thing to know here is that your Anacin already contains caffeine, which is a stimulant in its own right. Ephedra (ma huang) is also a strong stimulant. Stacking two stimulants together doesn't just add them up, it can amplify the effects in a way that hits the heart and nervous system hard.

In real terms, that combo could mean a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, a spike in blood pressure, trouble sleeping, and in the worst cases serious events like heart attack, stroke, or seizures have been reported. The evidence is mostly anecdotal, but the risk is taken seriously, and ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements anyway. Please don't use an ephedra product, and check with your pharmacist or doctor about safer options.

Theoretically, ephedra might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Some animal research suggests that ephedra induces CYP1A2 and increases the clearance of CYP1A2 substrates such as caffeine.

Here's the gist for products like Anacin, which pair aspirin with caffeine. The caffeine part is broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Some early animal studies suggest ephedra may speed that enzyme up, which could clear caffeine out of your body a bit faster. In plain terms, the caffeine boost might feel weaker or shorter than usual.

But honestly, the bigger concern isn't the enzyme. Ephedra and caffeine are both strong stimulants, so stacking them can really crank up your heart rate, blood pressure, jitteriness, and anxiety. Keep in mind ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good reason. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything like this.
