Clopidogrel falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.

In vitro research shows that a methanol extract of Padang cassia inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, taking Padang cassia with CYP3A4 substrates might increase the effects and side effects of these substrates.

Here's the key thing about Plavix (clopidogrel): it's a prodrug. That means it shows up in your body inactive, and your liver enzymes have to switch it on before it can actually thin your blood and prevent clots. So anything that slows those enzymes could leave you with less active drug, not more.

Now, the lab note we have says Padang cassia may block one of those enzymes (CYP3A4). In theory, that could blunt how well clopidogrel works, raising clot risk a little. But honestly, this is based only on a test-tube study using a concentrated extract, so it's quite weak evidence. The sprinkle of cinnamon on your oatmeal won't matter. If you're considering daily cinnamon capsules, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. What Is Clopidogrel Used For?

Brand name: Plavix

Clopidogrel tablets are used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) — including unstable angina and non-ST-elevation or ST-elevation heart attacks — and in people with a history of recent heart attack, recent stroke, or established peripheral arterial disease. For ACS, it is typically given alongside aspirin.

It works by preventing platelets (blood cells that trigger clotting) from clumping together, which helps keep arteries open and lowers the chance of a dangerous clot forming.
