ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Metformin, Sitagliptin
Metformin, Sitagliptin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: Janumet pairs two diabetes medicines (metformin and sitagliptin) that both work to bring your blood sugar down. Some lower-quality studies suggest concentrated cinnamon, including Padang cassia, may nudge blood sugar down a bit too. So the concern isn't that the cinnamon changes how your body breaks down the drug, it's that the two could stack on top of each other and push your sugar lower than intended.
If your levels drop too low, you might feel shaky, sweaty, lightheaded, or confused. The good news is the evidence here is modest, and ordinary cooking amounts of cinnamon are very unlikely to matter. It's the concentrated capsules that warrant caution. Before starting any cinnamon supplement, check in with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
