Here's the simple version: both saxagliptin (Onglyza) and concentrated cinnamon supplements like Padang Cassia can nudge your blood sugar downward. When you stack them, the effects may add up, so your sugar could drop lower than you expect. This isn't about one blocking the other in your liver. It's just two blood-sugar-lowering helpers working at the same time.

To be fair, the evidence that cinnamon meaningfully lowers blood sugar is fairly weak and mixed, so don't panic. Sprinkling cinnamon on your oatmeal almost certainly won't matter. A daily concentrated capsule is a different story. Watch for signs of low sugar like shakiness, sweating, or feeling dizzy, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a cinnamon supplement so they can guide any adjustments.

Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Saxagliptin tablets are used to help adults with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels. It is meant to be used together with diet and exercise, either alone or alongside other diabetes medicines.

Saxagliptin tablets are not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous complication where the blood becomes too acidic).
