Crizotinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Passion Flower interacts with.

Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.

Here's the gist for Xalkori (crizotinib). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear this cancer drug. Some early lab research hints that passion flower may gently speed up that same enzyme, which could in theory clear crizotinib a little faster and make it slightly less effective at fighting your cancer. Crizotinib is not a prodrug, so faster clearing means less drug working, not more.

I want to keep this in perspective: this comes only from test-tube studies, the effect was much weaker than known enzyme boosters, and it's rated a minor, possible concern. Still, with a cancer medicine you don't want to gamble. Please run any passion flower use past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

About Crizotinib

What Is Crizotinib Used For?

Brand name: Xalkori

Xalkori (crizotinib) treats adult patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors test positive for ALK or ROS1 gene changes, as confirmed by an FDA-approved test.

Xalkori is also used for pediatric patients (age 1 and older) and young adults with relapsed or refractory systemic ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), and for adult and pediatric patients (age 1 and older) with unresectable, recurrent, or refractory ALK-positive inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT). Xalkori's safety and effectiveness in older adults with relapsed or refractory ALK-positive ALCL have not been established.
