Valbenazine Tosylate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Pinellia Ternata interacts with.

Evidence from animal research shows that a Pinellia ternata preparation decreases activity and increases sleeping time. Theoretically, Pinellia ternata can potentiate the therapeutic effect of CNS depressants. Some of these medications include antihistamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, and others.

Here's the gist with Ingrezza (valbenazine) and Pinellia ternata. Valbenazine can already make some people feel drowsy or tired. Pinellia ternata, based only on animal studies, seems to have a calming or sedating effect of its own. So the worry is that putting the two together could stack up that sleepiness, leaving you more groggy, foggy, or off-balance than usual.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it comes from lab and animal research, not from people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Still, since Pinellia must be specially processed and isn't something to use casually, please run it by your doctor or pharmacist before combining it with your valbenazine.

What Is Valbenazine Used For?

Brand name: Ingrezza

Valbenazine — sold as Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle — is approved for two conditions in adults. The first is tardive dyskinesia, a movement disorder that causes uncontrolled, repetitive facial or body movements, often brought on by long-term use of certain psychiatric medications. The second is chorea associated with Huntington's disease, which refers to the involuntary, dance-like jerking movements that are a hallmark of that condition.

Both Ingrezza and INGREZZA Sprinkle are approved for both of these uses.
